"My work has always been dominated by colour and movement. I want to capture a moment in time, a feeling, the essence of someone or something. I want the effect to be striking, powerful and dynamic; both alive with movement and given space to breathe."
I was born in Perth, Scotland. After studying History of Art at St Andrews University, I spent much of my time travelling, until 2004 when I trained in Fine Art at Santa Monica College, Los Angeles. Shortly after I exhibited my first solo exhibition at the Karen Lynne Gallery, Beverly Hills.
On my return to the UK in 2007 I started painting my Shooting Series. A fresh and contemporary take on a traditional sport. I absolutely love mixing old with new. In 2011, I was appointed the "Belvoir Castle Shoot Artist" by the Duke and Duchess of Rutland. It was here I discovered a talent for capturing the character of people on a day's shoot.
In 2011, I started my Horse Racing Series. Mostly executed with a palette knife, the colour and the movement of the horses are conducive to my fast moving style. I exhibited both racing and shooting paintings at Bonhams, various galleries around the UK and many of my paintings can be found in private collections in Europe, Asia, North America, Australia and New Zealand. Recently, one of my linen horse racing paintings sold at a charity auction for $30,000 USD.
Abstract and Sport
In 2012, I moved to Barcelona where I exhibited at the Geston Ideas Gallery. It was here I first ventured more into the world of abstract. My follow up 'Stepping' exhibition in the A and D gallery, London, shows a further natural progression to the world of abstract through a continued exploration of light, atmosphere and movement. This exploration was a definite stepping stone to my new sporting series painted on linen.
London and Thompson's.
I am currently based in London and delighted to be represented by the fantastic Thompson's Galleries, Marylebone. It is here I continue to work on and explore my new Sports Series on linen.
